Every year an HIV knowledge empowers congress is presented to
professionals in the dental fraternity after which oral hygienists and dental
assistants may volunteer to participate in the Smile of Joy educational program.
These volunteers go
through a selection process. The chosen volunteers receive further training
in the execution of the Smile
of Joy educational program after which a monthly visit to an identified
institution is implemented.
During each visit one lesson of the smile of joy educational program is presented which is ended with a practical brushing session. Smile of Joy aims to supply the institutions with toothpaste and toothbrushes every 3 months (donation dependent) to ensure the kids have the necessary tools to keep their mouths healthy.
